While working at DCI, a women’s prison, for eight years as an advanced level practitioner, Dr. Rhonda Smith noticed an alarming rate of women coming to prison because of drugs. She observed they were attempting to numb the pain of toxic relationships and childhood trauma. They all wanted to know the same thing; why are they attracted to toxic, abusive relationships. Many inmates shared the same childhood stories of trauma and abuse throughout their lifetime.
Through research, Dr. Rhonda realized childhood trauma was the primary reason they chose to abuse drugs. Their addiction was secondary, and this ultimately led them to incarceration. Rhonda realized these women were caught up in a web of deception. The cycle of abuse, returning to prison due to their toxic relationships, past trauma, and reduced selfworth, was heartbreaking to Dr. Rhonda.
Inspired to address the problem, Dr. Rhonda Smith founded Divine Core Transformation
to offer programs to victims or survivors of domestic violence, inmates, ex-offenders and those suffering from addiction, as well as those in recovery. “Our programs are designed to help individuals go within themselves, connect with the inner child who suffered trauma years ago, and become healed and whole,” said Dr. Rhonda.
Dr. Rhonda Smith launched her latest book,
“Recognizing the Love Trap” on November 9, 2019 at The Dayton Club.
